Billy Cobham

Billy Cobham vuonna 2006

William C. Cobham (s.16. toukokuuta 1944, Panama) on yhdysvaltalainen rumpali. Billy Cobham on syntyjään panamalainen, josta hänen perheensä muutti New Yorkiin Cobhamin ollessa kolmevuotias.

Nuoresta asti rumpuja soittanut Cobham opiskeli arvostetussa New Yorkin High School of Music and Artissa, josta hän valmistui vuonna 1962. Vuodesta 1965 vuoteen 1968 hän soitti rumpuja U.S. Army Bandissa, josta kotiuduttaan hän siirtyi Horace Silverin hard bop -yhtyeeseen. Tämän jälkeen Cobham soitti useiden eri jazzmuusikoiden orkestereissa ja teki levytyksiä muun muassa Miles Davisin kanssa.

1960-luvun lopulla Cobham yhdessä kitaristi John McLaughlinin kanssa lähtivät Davisin yhtyeestä perustaakseen fuusiobändi Mahavishnu Orchestran, jonka ensilevytys The Inner Mounting Flame ilmestyi vuonna 1971. Bändin sisäinen jännite johti ensimmäisen kokoonpanon hajoamiseen vuonna 1973, jonka jälkeen Cobham levytti ensimmäisen sooloalbuminsa Spectrumin.

Billy Cobhamia pidetään yleisesti yhtenä kaikkien aikojen parhaista rumpaleista.
