Tuolle hämähäkinverkolle haluaisin lähteen: missä olisi se syy, että teräs- tai muu lanka, ellei jopa hius, olisi kelvannut ristikoksi hauraan seitin sijaan. En myöskään ole kuullut moisesta.

William Gascoigne, an amateur astronomer in England, was using a Kepler-style telescope when part of a spider's web found its way inside the telescope. One small web line happened to fall right at the focus point, so both the thin line and the image Gascoigne was viewing were magnified together. Gascoigne realized that he could more accurately point the telescope using the line as a guide, and he went on to invent the telescopic sight by purposefully placing wires at the focus point. This helped astronomers make more accurate observations and measurements of objects in space, using the thin wires as a reference point.

During World War II the threads of Araneus diadematus, Zilla atrica, Argiope aurantia and other orb weavers were used as hairs in measuring equipment. The Americans used the threads of the black widow (Latrodectus) in their telescopic gun sights.

The original Lee Floating Dot was actually suspended by strands of spider web. This was the finest, strongest material available. The ultra thin strands of spider web were practically invisible, so the dot appeared to float in the center of the field of view.

Yleensä, tiedä siitäkään, mutta puolustusvoimien yhteydessä erikseen ei. Tähtäinkaukoputki kuuluu intin terminologiaan vieläkin. Et silleen se taas.

Rakenne ja SUSAT

Joku asiaa tunteva voisi kehittää tähän artikkeliin hyviä väliotsikoita, joita edeltää ytimekäs johdanto. Artikkeli on nyt aika pitkä pätkä ilman mitään väliotsikointia.
