English: On Salisbury Plain, the Can-Am 6x6 Outlander vehicles have been trialled for use in the deployment of Mortars in the Battlespace.

The vehicles (a six wheeled quad bike) offer speed and load carrying in a small package and mean a separate trailer is not required to be attached to a conventional quad.

The Outlander can tow 750 kg and the tilt assist cargo box is capable of carrying over 300kg.

The marines also used the training to compare the Outlander – to mortars which are mounted on the commandos’ Viking armoured vehicles from Viking Mortar Section of Armoured Support Group.

They looked at how tactics and techniques differ between the two and how the mortar capability is altered depending on which of the two very different vehicles is used.
